[ Media Invite ]
Since our last visit, we know Gu Ma Jia (姑妈家) always deliver quality and healthy home-cooked food (no MSG). Families can always enjoy good food in a cosy environment.
We were invited to a food tasting session for the latest 私房菜(family recipes), some of which will be available for Chinese New Year feasts.
Herbal Chicken (富贵鸡) – (rated 3.5/5)
Best tonic for cold weather, broth is rich and nutritious and kids scooped up every last drop. The chicken has absorbed all the nourishing essence.
Home-made Yam Ring with Kyoto pork ribs ($30) – (rated 3.75/5)
Some love the succulent Ribs, others love the crispy Yam. Delightful combination of sweetness and crispiness.
Satay Cuttle Fish ($18) – (rated 2.75/5)
The satay sauce lacks punch and Daddy thought the cuttle fish slices might be too chunky. Kids and grandparents might have difficulty chewing.
Gu Ma Jia’s signature enzyme drink. Daddy googled and understand Enzyme drink comes from fermented fruits or vegetables. This drink started sour (like plum 酸梅) and slowly gets more refreshing near the bottom. Maybe the jellies make the drink sweeter?
Adults love it but our kids have second thoughts.
Traditional Bean curd Soup ($28) – (rated 3.5/5)
Daddy described it as comfort soup, every scoop gives us a soothing feel. Boiled over 6 hours with fresh ingredients like fish head, pork ribs and bean curd.
XO Prawn Noodles ($36) Yummy! – (rated 3.75/5)
Boon Wee and adults love the yummy noodles. No wonder, it must be the superior XO sauce inside (sic).
Indulgent dish, prepared with the freshest prawns! Everyone helped themselves to at least two prawns. Daddy was too slow to take photo and it was already half gone when it reached him haha.
Do take note the noodle is slightly spicy 🙂

Ubin Lala Bee Hoon ($18) – (rated 4/5)
Everyone love this dish, tasty and appetising. The sweetness of the lala mixed with thick rice vermicelli. Daddy was curious about the name Ubin until he learnt that 姑妈 grew up and honed her cooking skills on Pulau Ubin.
Delicious Prawn Paste chicken wings – (rated 3.5/5)
This is a must try at Gu Ma Jia, and we order extra servings 🙂
Lotus Leaf Rice (河叶饭) – (rated 3/5)
Pardon the photo quality, the 臘腸 (preserved meat lak4 chang2) goes well with the rice.
Desserts for kids and adults, ice cream and “姑妈糖水”.
Thank you 姑妈 (Gu Ma) for the invitation, our family had an enjoyable dinner. You might wish to check out 姑妈家’s Chinese New Year reunion cuisines on their Website and Fanpage. Set menus start from $488, no service charge and GST.
Do pop by our previous Assam Fishhead feast too!
姑妈! This is the kids’ (SengkangBabies and PerfectFather) way of expressing their satisfaction 🙂
