Let’s Bo Bo Cha Cha!

Little Boon Xin blowing kisses under three charming gals. Poster is from Great World Cabaret’s Let’s Bo Bo Cha Cha.
Bet she does not know Rose Chan and her snake was super-hot (literally) during the 1950s. Even Daddy and Mummy is too young to remember πŸ™‚

Anyway, Boon Xin is excited about her date with Mummy and Daddy.

The synopsis reveals how an aged (and balding) Museum caretaker once lived a colourful past at Singapore’s most famous nightclub, Great World Cabaret.

From start to end, Daddy had the Chingay feel-good vibes, the stage, cast, language and costume were so colourful and flamboyant.

That was how the 50s and 60s defined “entertainment”, before TV boxes (and Ipads) invaded our living rooms. We followed Simon as he relates his love story with Nancy, growing together with Great World Cabaret.

Drunken sailors. Sensational Rose, Magician Foo You Or and acrobats from Shandong.
Our little girl was chucking away. She really enjoyed Bo Bo Cha Cha at the Carabet!

Parents need not worry as there is no nudity on stage, and Daddy quietly laments that it is thus not authentic enough.

Heng ah (Lucky us), Valentiko (no typo error) aka Mark Lee was speaking in Hokkien and Mandarin during his standup. We adults have to think dirty a bit, then Mark’s Hokkien jokes will become hilarious. Yes, crude too haha.

(Fortunately, Boon Xin is still too young to understand the jokes, otherwise Daddy will have problem explaning!)

Mark Lee is in his element when he converse in Hokkien. This guy can host, act and he dazzles on stage. This Ah Beng can really Talk Cock do standup comedy. Just listen to him 鸟话 (you can infer as sweet-talk or talk-nonsense) about “calling chicken” and ηŒ«ε±±ηŽ‹’s origin πŸ™‚

Cannot talk never mind, must know how to whistle. Other notable Headliners will be Hossan, Sebastian and Judee (different performing dates).

Boon Xin found some Mediacorp stars (from Coffeeshop 118).

Great World Cabaret Let’s Go Bo Bo Cha Cha is a collaboration between Resorts World Sentosa and Dream Academy Productions, and will run from 19Feb to 17Mar. Click for show details and Youtube preview. Tickets details at Sistic website.

We will recommend this show for the Grandparents too, let them relive their happening days.

Last Sat, SengkangBabies went searching for the LIGHT at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS). We were invited to RWS’s latest Musical “LightSeeker“.

An original production of RWS, the LightSeeker tells a riveting story of the power of choice when stuck at the crossroads of fear versus freedom.
Last date for RWS Lightseeker

Quoting the synopsis from RWS :
In this fantastic and magical world, a terrifying warrior called the General pursues a precious energy that will make his ominous Emperor more powerful. His quest leads him to Nova, an enigmatic girl, who seems to have the ability to create The Light.

A battle for The Light ensues and he captures Nova, and tries to force her to conjure up The Light. He soon discovers that not only is he unable to control her, her presence calls into question the only world he has ever known. He must make the ultimate choice – be secure in the dark world he knows, or embrace a new world with The Light.

RWS Musical, where is RWS Theatre

To make it simple, kids just need to know who are the bad guys (Emperor, General and the Sorceress), and the good chaps (Nova and basically everyone else). Everytime the General arrives on the scene, we can expect battles and sometimes, pyrotechnics !

Lead by stars from London’s West End and melodies written by Dick Lee, the musical leads us into a Fantasy world.

The audience is captivated by the stage setup, elaborate costumes and powerful song ensembles. And the kids will be amazed at the acrobatics stunts from the performers.

Those seating near the front will get an extra dose of adrenalin when the performers swing in your direction !

It takes a lot of strength to display such finesse fluid moves.
The cast make the loops and somersaults looked so effortless!

Unlike other musicals, Lightseeker’s backdrop is equally spectacular.
The CGI, the Emperor and other special effects, all come together to heighten the audience experience.

Nova’s home, full of lighting effects (pun intended).

Love the thrilling trampoline jumps! Top down left right, bouncing everywhere.

What better way to appreciate the musical efforts, then to go for a backstage walk.
No details are too small and every prop is crucial.

We caught up with the Imps “Jye and Min” (real name Andy and Joshua) who shared with us some of their challenges.

Being a musical artist is no easy job, just imagine the amount of lyrics and scripts which one needs to remember!
With so much actions going on, everyone needs to be in tip top condition.

Backstage B3, B4. Eye opening for everyone.

We found Usha’s red wig and the General’s armour too! Every piece of crafted item can be considered limited edition.

Boys are impressed with General’s wardrobe. Fierce !

Kids, are you happy with the Musical?

Thank you RWS for the enchanting invite, we enjoyed our own LightSeeker adventure.
At the same time, kids learn a story about Good versus Bad.

But, why do the boys still prefer the Bad character “General”?
Daddy suspects his apparels are too cool.
