[ Media Invite ]
We were invited to Gardens by the Bay’s latest makeover. “From Tales to Legends : Discover Singapore Stories” showcase 10 local folk stories are brought to life with creative Orchids.
At the entrance, Sang Nila Utama will be no stranger. Kids knew how the Prince first spotted a lion and that was how Singapore (Singapura) came to be known as “Lion city”.
Orchids everywhere, commemorating Singapore’s 50th Golden Jubilee. We recommend visiting the Flower Dome during the day to better appreciate the pretty Orchids.
You will come across many more local stories, and creative use of stamps. Radin Mas, Redhill, Tanjong Pagar …
Kusu Island, can you spot the turtle?
Sisters’ Islands, I ask the boys whether they remember their intertidal walk last September.
A hybrid Merlion? Frankly speaking, this pumped up Merlion did not appeal to me.
Honouring our pioneers and their sacrifices. Try to spot the “Night soil carriers”!
I told them coolies used to squat at sidewalks and eat their meals.
Why are kids laughing, coolies and 红头巾 (Samsui women) survived through harsh conditions.
Before we had THX or Dolby certified multiplexes, this mobile movie was one of the highlights for the kids.
Kacang Putih for your movies, anyone?
Saw this on our way out. We suspect 995 will be covered by the creepers soon 🙂
Special SG50 performance at the Supertree grove (Garden Rhapsody). This is our favourite segment of the evening, with mesmerising songs. Look at the crowd around the trees. Besides a light show, we get to sing along favourites like “Home, We Are Singapore etc”. This performance is free.
We end the evening with a splendid buffet. At Satay by the Bay, we were feasting on satay, fried Hokkien mee, and yummy seafood from Wholly Crab (owner Felicia Chin).
Thank you Gardens by the Bay for the invite!
