One lazy Saturday afternoon, when Daddy needed to perk himself up, he drove two boys to Geylang Keng Wah Sung for some Hainan coffee.
We heard from 百分百新加坡 that Hainan coffee (海南咖啡) is one of the pioneers in Singapore. 琼华昌 (Keng Wah Sung) is No1 on this list.
We love the thin slice of crusty toasted bread and home-made kaya. The kaya blends well with the coffee, and the slab of butter just melts in our mouth. Kids ordered soccer-ball (milo).
Verdict : Nothing is wasted, leave no crumbs behind.
Coffee – 8.5/10 – a little bitter aftertaste, coffee aroma will linger in your mouth. One of the best coffee Daddy has tasted in Singapore
Toast & Egg – 8.5/10 (love the Kaya)
Atmosphere – 8/10. Order a cuppa and people watch. Quiet corner but busy Geylang road. Regular patrons will stream in every now and then to enjoy a cuppa. (No red-light activity around this stretch, so it is safe for kids)
Keng Wah Sung is at 783 Geylang Road (S)389672 (junction of Geylang Road and Lor 41 Geylang). (GPS 1.315063, 103.891647 ) . Closed on Sunday.
Keng Wah Sung is currently our no1coffeestall in Singapore. Do checkout Heap Seng Leong (Another old school coffeeshop)’s review here.
