Shell Fuelsave and tips help every tank last longer

We can see mark improvement in terms of our Fuel economy after two tanks (25 litre). Ours is a weekend car and we normally pump 25 litres every 2 weeks.

Have you read about our Shell Fuelsave challenge, how Shell FuelSave (95, 98) together with fuel-saving tips can make every tank last longer?

Although our mileage is only 11.6km/l, nowhere near the four contestant’s average 23.37km/l (follow link above), it is already an improvement.
Shell tips for fuel economy

We are already seeing the difference after the second tank. From Shell’s Fuelsave log card, it indicates that we are traveling 80km more for every 25l.

Extra 80km divide by mileage of 11.6km/l yields a saving of $15.00 (estimated with current Shell 95 pricing of $2.250). Not bad at all !

Perhaps Daddy has always been a heavy footer, so when he slows down and employs Shell Fuel saving tips, he could notice the improvements.

What are some of the discovery during our Shell Fuelsave challenge?

#01 JAMS ! Peak hour Jams. This is the biggest challenge for attaining higher fuel economy. Constant braking and idling can only be bad for fuel economy.

#02 Multi-storey carpark are not friendly for fuel economy readings too, as we have to constantly change the gears up/down the slopes, and brakes during blind corners.

#03 Daddy is avoiding lane 1 while driving on the highway. He has a tendency to speed if he is on lane 1. Center lanes allow him to moderate his speed, below the speed limit. Driving on the slowest lane might not help as we might be caught behind lumbering trucks and buses. Daddy is not overtaking so frequently nowadays πŸ™‚

#04 Daddy is making a conscious effort to check our tyres every week.

We have shared some of Shell’s fuel saving tips (total 14) in an earlier post, read about them here.

Do not take our word for it.
Go and grab a Shell Fuelsave log card today, try Shell FuelSave petrol and employ their Fuel economy tips. Check whether your ride will enjoy better fuel economy too.

In our effort to increase our Fuel mileage, Daddy is actually driving more SAFELY.
That alone, is motivation for us to keep on employing Shell’s Fuel saving tips.

Disclaimer. Every car every driver will get different results. Our test was conducted on Shell Fuelsave 95, and we drive during the weekends. The results will definitely be different compare to someone who drives during peak hours.

On a side note, from now till 13Jul2014, Shell is running “Win with Shell” contest.

To quote from Shell:
The Shell FuelSave Challenge 2014 is part of an educational journey designed to help drivers learn how to save fuel. It is an experiential driving challenge that enables drivers to measure their current fuel efficiency level, gain greater insight into their driving behaviour and habits, and evaluate how their driving styles can be improved to reduce fuel consumption with the use of Shell fuels and Shell FuelSave tips and ultimately, save costs.

How to improve Fuel economy

Some of us might be skeptical, Singapore is an urban city (read too many traffic lights), we wonder if fuel efficiency tips are even feasible or possible?

Just ask Shell’s four contestants, they were selected by Shell to undergo a challenge. Everyone apply Shell’s fuel efficient driving techniques (yes, off the aircon) and achieved 50% improvement in their fuel economy!

Some of the fuel economy tips are common sense, which we drivers sometimes forget. Shell shared some of their fuel economy tips during the media session :

– fastest way to kill your fuel economy is to rev the engine, and constant eBrake
– keep RPM humming at 2000 revs/min
– offload unnecessary weight (hint the golf bag) from the boot

This will be a challenge for Daddy too, as everyone says he drives like a racer πŸ™‚
