Boon Xin jumping for joy, she has found Mother Nature’s new playground at Sungei Buloh Extension, all 31ha of mangrove(紅樹林) and mud to explore 🙂
The original Sungei Buloh Wetland reserve (双溪布洛) ground remains unchanged, the new extension is closer to Kranji reservoir and bus service 925.
Walkways are designed to hug the mangroves coastline. Visitors can now admire up-close how mangroves provide protection for inner coastal waterways and the various inhabitants within the wetland boundary.
Sunrise and sunset will be especially mesmerising along the whole stretch of walkway, which offers a panoramic view of Johor.
Love the pods (total 3) along Coastal trail. They provide a hideout for you to view the birds or elevated views of mangrove coastline. The pods will be fun for kids to climb up and down (be warned, the structure can waver a bit haha)
You can bet kids will enjoy their nature trail! It was drizzling during our field trip, but with Cheekiemonkies for company, nothing will stop us from having fun.
We love how the man-man structures (walkway, bridge and pods) meshed into natural surroundings. Besides minimal disruption to the foliage, a mid-canopy walkway also allows you to brush along a forest’s undergrowth!
Before we knew it, we had covered 1.3km on the scenic coastal trail.
Friendly trail, Happy kids, the trail is stroller friendly too, but do remember natural area is definitely mosquito-friendly too.
Follow the cute Mudskipper logo and signboards to learn and interact more. Sungei Buloh is a great outdoor classroom for everyone young and old.

When we pop by during Sungei Buloh Extension’s opening, there were special activities for kids.
Drawing on stones, not easy.
Neither is it allowed easy to draw on bins 🙂
More open space and obstacles for kids to explore (near Visitor center).
You can row across a river or navigate yourself out of a red mangrove swamp (very slippery surface on wet days).
“Mud experience” should be Fun and therapeutic like Mummy’s Mud spa. Imagine dabbling your toes in the soft mudflat. The resident giant mudskipper will be amused that we humans love mud habitat too (this experience is only available during low tide)
Kids will love bouncing on the rope bridge, Daddy was half-anticipating the kids to waddle into the water haha!
Although information signboards are packed with knowledge, nothing beats a guide, Free walks are available on Saturday. With names like What’s in my MUD?(mangroves/sky/water etc total of six trails), kids can definitely look forward to embrace Sungei Buloh Wetland reserve. Registration details at this link.
Tips and recommendations :
– Go during LOW TIDE to see more smell more. For the month of Jan, the lowest tide is from afternoon to evening. Click for Tide info.
– Do take note there are currently no F&B outlet at Sungei Buloh extension, prepare your own refreshment
– Bring enough mosquito patches to protect a battalion, (joking) we got more kids :p
– do not disturb the crocodiles at Sungei Buloh

We Love Sungei Buloh. This is one of the few areas where we can get real close (now even closer) to mangrove and coastal inhabitants!
