Fun experience at Home Team festival

You know it must be FUN when Boon Yee and Boon Xin are trying to stop the Red Truck !

Daddy told us the “ang3 chia1” (literally Red car) was primary used to suppress riots. On the news, we have seen water cannon (not your usual shower head) and stinging cocktails deployed to disperse rioters or crowd. No one is getting pepper spray wet today :p

Normally, it is not FUN to be stopped by Traffic police (TP), but last Sunday, kids were happily posing with TP’s mean machines !

Daddy is proud to announce that we did not receive any summon during last weekend’s Home Team Festival.

And many families were eager to get up close with the favourite elusive Volvo, and best of all, Home Team Festival was Free !

2013 is Home Team’s inaugural open house, and the theme was “Safe Home, Our Secure Nation”.

Nearer to our home, we wonder how CCTV can help keep our neighbourhood safer.

Nope, Singapore has strict gun laws (unlike United states), Daddy told us we do not need to buy pump gun at Walmart. The only pistol/gun/rifles we have do not need ammunition, we just need water.

Kids has an opportunity to steer a patrol vessel too, although Boon Xin was attempting a donut (drift).

We are telling you the Home Team’s showroom is more happening then those along Ubi or Leng Kee ! Our rides come in black or red, and some are even armour plated !

No wonder Boon Xin is smiling so broadly πŸ™‚

Boon Yee tried to enrolled for Sengkang’s Police vigilante group. Daddy told him he must grow more muscle to wield the shield and baton first.

Boon Xin was more interested in her light sabre (KL Kidzania has one identical rod)

Kids always look adorable when they are riding over-sized Yamahas or Red-Scorpions !

What happens when our MRT has an incident? We fondly remembered our tunnel walking experience at Sengkang MRT Depot.

We saw the mini me “truck” roll off from a Hazmat truck during 2013 NDP. Pretty cool.

We have not seen this armed truck before, it belongs to the fierce Gurkha unit.

Even Riot police are not exempted from ERP haha πŸ™‚

Police van and prison bus on display too. Cool.

Other activities spotted at the festival. The rock wall is intimidating, and where is K9 canine?

Besides the vehicles, Daddy suspects Family section is the next most popular with kids.

Kids get to wear their favourite Police or Fireman uniforms. At another corner, they can be CSI (forensic) or CID detectives too !

Kiddy rides in Police patrol or Fireman’s jeep. Too cool !

To garner a smile from the kids, this ride is worth the 30 or 40 minutes queue.

We always reinforce the importance of “Look Right, Look Left”.

Video – Home Team Festival is too cool ! Catch Boon Yee attempts to conquer the “endless ladder”

We love SAF’s open-houses (be it Air Force, Navy or Army), and this is our first Home Team Open house. Judging by the non-stop high beam and horning at the Vehicle gallery, we suspect kids (and families) are shouting for an encore πŸ™‚

Great Work organisers! We hope to attend more Home Team open houses in the near future.

It would be cool if organisers can build a prison cell for future open house. Show the kids why it is miserable to lose their freedom.

** Do pop by SengkangBabies album for more exhibition photos.

– Did you know SPF has a Police Heritage Centre? We visited the museum in 2011

– if your Resident Commitee (RC) is organising a MRT evacuation drill with SMRT, sign up quickly. Our kids were impressed when the MRT’s front door unfold to reveal the tracks.

Battleship at Sembawang Park

Sembawang Park was where Daddy spend his family picnic Saturdays when he was young. It is still popular with families today.

Then we heard about a Battleship at Sembawang Park from Cheekiemonkies. We are not talking about the warships at Sembawang shipyards :p

The warship’s superstructure seems to sail through the sandpit gracefully. Kids were getting real busy around the vessel. The starboard and port looks formidable.

How can we miss the Naval artillery, kids love to initiate shore bombardment with the massive cannons.

The boat’s hull offers more activities, and cooling shades.

Video : This warship clip should be able to convince parents to head North for some battle actions soon πŸ™‚

Ahoy mate, it sounds exciting, you might be wondering how one can climb onboard the warship? We have listed three safer conventional routes. Adults be warned, these three routes are designed with kids in mind.

#01– If your kids love to run into a wall, this will be the ultimate entry point. You need to run and torpedo yourself head first into the black hole. Some bruises can be expected. Parents can opt to nudge the smaller kids forward.

Adults stay OUT please, to be wedged midway might not be a pretty sight !
Sembawang park photos

#02 – The easiest way to scale the boat. Every sailor must know how to navigate the rope ladder. Sand-on-head is part of the experience.
Sembawang playground photos

#03 – Rock climbing is easy if you have suitable footwear. This route is recommended for junior Special Forces. Daddy found out barefoot ascend is akin to a painful reflexology session! Ouch.

The three routes are challenging, but you might be asking why do kids bother?
What is so enticing up there?

At the top, this Slide is between two and three stories high, but kids do not mind at all. After struggling to reach the peak, it is immensely satisfying to slide down in fast fashion.

Boon Wee and Boon Kang were taking turns to pull and push the smaller two up the “levels” haha.
Sembawang park suitable for toddlers

From the top, if you look 360 degrees around the playground, you will see happy families at every corner. Be it jogging, cycling, scooting or just a simple walk, the lush surroundings are so soothing.

You will also notice why the deck is not adult friendly. Parents need to keep bending our backs or wriggle through the port holes. It is Not cool for Daddy to play catching with the sneaky kiddos.
Sembawang Playground, what is new at Sembawang park

Once we disembark, kids are spotted building sandcastles. Sandplay is as exciting as the slides. Do bring your caterpillar bulldozers or shovel and buckets along πŸ™‚

This circular swing must be the highlight for most kids. Simply pack 5 or 6 kids on board, and adults start to rotate the swing in a circular motion. Giddy, but Fun ! (did you catch the video above?)

Sembawang’s seaside is still popular with families after so many years.

– More info about Sembawang Park can be found at nParks website. Do pop by our Fanpage album to see how SengkangBabies conduct naval warfare.

– There is a toilet and taps nearby to help clean off the sand.

– A word of caution, once the swing is in motion, we need to be aware of the swing’s “orbit”. Someone’s child did not realised the swing in action and was KNOCK down hard πŸ™

Fortunately, it was only a minor bruise. nParks indicate this playground is recommend for 6 to 12years old, never leave your child out of sight.

Click for more fun playground recommendations here, or try more sandy pits at Ang Mo Kio, Pasir Ris, Punggol my Waterway, Tiong Bahru, or West Coast Park.
