Sundown Marathon is here again.
2015 is the 8th edition with theme “Pulse of the Tribe”.
No, I am not attempting any Marathon anytime soon.
Perhaps 20km might be achievable by end 2015, but my first objective is to try and run 10km under 60 mins.
For 2015’s OSIM Sundown Marathon, I will be running 5km with my two older boys.
I am one of the parenting ambassadors for 2015 too, read more about “Sundown with Love here”.
I only started running regularly end 2014, 5 to 8km three times a week.
It is very tiring to try and maintain a running schedule amidst busy work and family commitment, it is always so much easier to come up with an excuse to skip running.
But, I need to persevere.
To take care of my family, I need to keep fit and take care of myself first.
Sports is always one way for me to engage my kids, and bonding would be tough if I cannot even catch them in the first place.
My 2015 Resolution is to keep fit.

(If you would like to join me in running, send me a note)
Sundown Race day is on 04 July, but preparations are underway for runners (fast and slow).
I attended the first lead up run (and circuit) on 11th April.
We ran 3km from Vivocity to Labrador Park, followed by circuit training.
Gosh, it must be at least 20 years since I last did any circuits!
– 2x 800 m dash around Labrador park. We are supposed to dash but my legs were not listening to me.
– x4 laps up steep hill (at least 60 degree), I could not finish the series
– static stations – pushups, lunges, star jumps!
By the time I complete the circuits, I could barely manage the 3km jog back to Harbour Front.
Fortunately, friendly pacers were there to motivate and encourage me to try my best.
We are always reminded to listen to our body, that the most important thing is safety, but it also means I really need to buck up my fitness.
Back at Vivocity, Yoga and Drums welcome the launch of 2015 OSIM Sundown Marathon.
The next lead up runs will be on 25th April (6pm F1 pit) and 20June (6pm Big Splash). You can run with your own tribe (friends or colleagues) or with the pacers. Both lead up runs are rated 20 to 30km, but I will attempt 10km only.
Do take note registration is free, but limited to 300 slots.
In summary :
I have only been running on flat roads and the circuits and intense laps up the slope really hit me hard. I learn that to improve our long distance running, running up slopes is the best way to build stronger heart muscles and endurance.
Do follow OSIM Sundown Marathon updates and contest on their website and Fanpage. You might just win an “OSIM uSqueez Air” worth $428.
