Chingay 2013 Fire in Snow

22.23 Feb, Chingay 2013 intends to wow you with “Fire in Snow”.

We always associate Chingay as a massive parade, where everyone from young to old, all genders all races would participate to bring out Singapore’s multi-culturalism. The Songs, the Music, the Drama all comes together to showcase an Asian musical theatre.

To quote from Chingay 2013 :
~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
Chingay 2013 celebrates the strength of the human spirit in the face of life’s challenges. Themed ‘Fire in Snow’, it presents a dazzling spectacle of fire as a symbol of power, passion, dynamism and determination. In contrast, the cold, harsh snow symbolises struggles and hardships, which are overcome by fire’s indistinguishable light of hope.
In 2012, Chingay surprise us by turning F1 pit into a waterway, and Daddy is curious to discover how 2013 can raise the bar higher 🙂
This year’s theme is “Fire in Snow” (雪中火). Casting 3000 performers, and an expected 160,000 strong audience over two days, this parade is likely to be spectacular. From the video above, with the Falling Snow and Simmering Fire, we are in for a treat !
PA wok donation is ongoing, as they need the Woks for cooking holding the fire :p
Besides the Fire, you can expect Opera performances (with Phamtom of the Opera theme), pyrotechnics and even firecrackers. Click for more Chingay 2013 highlights.
Zoo Hoo – zookeeper for a day
We were invited to Singapore Zoo’s Zoo Hoo event.
Zoo Hoo is where our kids can come in close to the animals, trainers, understand the different Zoo careers. Wei and Kang enjoyed their Zoo Hoo session back in 2010.
The difference for 2012 was “Jungle out loud”. There are some enriching encounters like “King of the Savannah”, “Ape-solutely Melodious” and “Elephant Symphony”. We can hear how animals vocalize and even play the different musical instruments.
On our tram, we caught the usual suspects. Maybe we are late (10plus), some animals were already in dreamland.
The Sun and Rain play “catching” with us too, alternating between wet and humid. Mandai Zoo literally become Rain forest.
We head to Animal Show to avoid the drizzle, and maybe say Hello to Dora (part of Zoo Hoo event). Someone is playing cat and mouse on the compound.
First time visitors will be amazed at the cat’s agility (catch the video below)
Before the cat and mouse bump into each other, our friendly hosts encouraged us to participate in some games to warmup.
NBA players come in all sizes. The rat is so cute !
As part of Zoo Hoo’s programme, there was a Greet and Meet session with Dora and Diego.
Video : Zoo Hoo encounters
We miss the animal petting sessions and the bubbles after the Animal Show. But kids are not complaining, we got Dora and Diego.
There is always an excuse for Ice Cream Time, now With Panda flavour cover.
We would have loved to participate in more activities, if not for the rain. However, we make do with the lousy weather. Kids were excited when the our tram roll down it’s raincoat. As we roll around the Zoo, Daddy ask the kids whether animals need to hide from the Rain.
Enjoy the zoo, even when it rains. Don the raincoat, try to splash some puddles.
The kids did that on their school outing some time back. It will be a new experience for everyone.
More Zoo Hoo photos can be found on our fanpage, or revisit our Zoo Hoo adventure in 2010.
We would like to take this opportunity to thanks Singapore Zoo (part of Wildlife Reserves Singapore) for the invite. Every trip to the Zoo is always a new experience for us.
